Issue 27: Friday Updates, 02/23/18

Animal Subjects and Intl. Activities Validations Are Now in PD

In issue 25, dated 1-26-18, we indicated that we would be adding error validations for animal subjects and international activities. Initially we thought these errors would be added on 2-9-18, however they were not added until today. Going forward you may see the following validation errors:

  • If the answer to the question for Animal Subjects is inconsistent with the entry on the Special Review tab, you will receive the following error:

"The response to the vertebrate animals question is inconsistent with the entry on the Special Review tab. If the vertebrate animals question is marked yes, there must be an Animal Use entry on the Special Review tab, and if marked no, there must be no Animal Use entry."

  • If the answer to the question for International Activities is inconsistent with the entry on the Special Review tab, you will receive the following error:

"The response to the International Activities question is inconsistent with the entry on the Special Review tab. If the International Activities question is marked yes, there must be an International Activities entry on the Special Review tab, and if marked no, there must be no International Activities entry."

If a proposal development document is already in-route, these errors will not prevent the document from successfully continuing through the route path. However, if a routed document is recalled, this error will need to be corrected before the document can be put back into route.

Validation Warning for Attaching Required Forms Has Been Removed

Previously, the warning message, “Please make sure you have attached all agency required forms,” was received on all Proposal Development documents. It was brought to our attention that this warning message was too generic and wasn’t helpful, therefore this warning message has been removed. It is now possible to route a PD document that has no errors or warnings.

Reminder to Pull in the Correct Opportunity Announcement for S2S

There are times when proposals that are started months in advance, may have a change in the Sponsors Opportunity ID in between the time the proposal development document was created and the time of submission. This is especially true for NIH proposals, where most of the opportunities have switched over from Forms-D to Forms-E. For example, if you had started an NIH proposal back in November that is due in March, you will likely have a new NIH opportunity number that corresponds with the new Forms-E. Please make sure you are updating your Opportunity ID to the current notice of opportunity in order to pull in the correct forms and form versions.

This is also the case with copied proposals. If you are copying a proposal from a previous submission in order to work on a resubmission, it’s good practice to check the Opportunity ID to make sure you have the correct version for your resubmission.
