Salary Budget Builder
(updated 6/23/17 with current SI costs)
Please use the following tool to calculate the salary and fringe portion of your budget.
Please notice the importance of the projected begin dates (month and year) as the current salary is increased by the inflation factor, and then prorated assuming MSU annual salary raises are effective in October of each year.
Also, the "lookup person" button works by opening another window. If your web browser blocks pop-up windows, this feature may not work.

Note: % on project is based on 100% of your appointment (whatever fraction that might be). For example, a 3/4 employee devoting all their time to a projects should use 100%.
Note: For Academic-year faculty paid for summer school use 7.65% of salaries
Note: Salary rates for all employees should be inflated in the 1-4% range for each succeeding year. Please note that some federal agencies, including NIH, require special justification for annual salary increases in excess of 3% for multi-year proposals.
Note:
The fringe benefit calculations provided by Salary Budget Builder are higher than the calculations provided by the KC Budget Module. This is due to a difference in how the health component of fringe benefits is apportioned between the two systems. We will be shutting down Salary Budget Builder on July 31, 2017 to avoid any confusion related to this discrepancy. Please contact your OSP Proposal Team if you have any questions.
Please make this information available to all appropriate departmental faculty and staff. If you have any questions or comments, please send an e-mail to the OSP/CGA systems group at systems@cga.msu.edu.
